Faults, Problems and Solutions / indicator fault

hi all i'm having a problem with my indicators ,not the usual faults you find though
when i turn them on they flash once and go off ,the hazard lights work properly until you push the stalk up or down. with them working once then going off its not a fuse could it be a relay? or has anyone come across this fault before.
